Double Girder Gantry Crane Introduction

Like the single girder gantry crane, double girder gantry crane is a type of gantry crane with double girder/beam structure on the top and travels on the crane rails. Usually, it equips electric crab hoist or electric open winch as lifting mechanism, not a monorail electric hoist. The electric crab hoist trolley runs on the rails that fixed on the top of main beams. The main girders of double girder gantry crane are supported by one or two legs which are connected with end beams, so the whole gantry crane system can travel along the crane rails by the end carriages.

As you know, for industrial gantry cranes, they are able to move in six directions, left and right, up and down, forward and backward. The electric crab hoist on the main beams moves in left and right directions, when lifting and lowering, the hook of the hoist move up and down and the whole gantry crane systems move forward and backward.

Double girder gantry crane will be equipped with a cable reel for long travel. Long travel means long power feeding system, gantry crane cable reel can effectively solve the problem of retracting and releasing the power supply cable.

Sometimes you can see the cantilevers on the left and right of the double girder gantry crane main beam, and sometimes just one on the left or right. The cantilevers length is not included in crane span, if you need to lift loads which are out of the crane rails, a cantilever is a good choice, the electric crab hoist can travel across the legs. Of course, the cantilever is not infinitely long, it depends on the span of the whole gantry crane.
